What is IDDT?
IDDT, or Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment is an evidence-based practice, with great benefits for consumers dealing with both mental illnesses and substance abuse problems. IDDT is a treatment where a clinician or treatment team not only focuses on treating mental illness, but substance abuse as well. Segue wrote a proposal in June 2008, and was awarded the IDDT contract by Lifeways. Segue’s plan is to convert one Jackson team into and IDDT-ACT team and the Hillsdale team will be and IDDT-ACT Team. Some consumers may be transferred from one team to another in August or September.
Many people with mental illnesses are prone to abuse drugs and/or alcohol and the negative side-effects of these choices are more great with a person with mental illnesses. The goal of IDDT is to assist consumers with recovery and reduce the risk of increased symptoms of mental illnesses, incarceration, financial problems, serious medical illnesses such as HIV, Hepatitis B & C, homelessness, suicide, sexual and physical victimization and many more problems. How Does IDDT Work?
IDDT will educated consumers about the negative effect of alcohol and drugs, involve the consumer in their recovery by allowing them to create their own goals and provide counseling specifically designed for those with dual-disorders, based on where they are at in their “stage of “change”.
The chance of recovery is greatly improved by using IDDT and many people with dual-disorders will greatly benefit from this treatment.
